There are two methods for adding media to a Keeping Culture archive – Public Folder and Simple Upload. Each have their advantages and disadvantages.
The first time you attempt to record an audio or movie annotation, the Flash Player will open the ‘Adobe Flash Player Settings’ window. You will be asked whether you wish to accept connections to your camera and microphone. You will need to accept in order to record audio and movie annotations.
The Simple Upload screen provides a streamlined method for ingesting media into a Keeping Culture Archive without the need to upload files via FTP or access the administration pages. Access to the Simple Upload screen is governed by the user, groups and permissions systems on both mobile and desktop interfaces.
Encoding and compressing movie files can be time consuming. It is unrealistic to expect users to wait for their files to encode during the upload process. As such, a workflow and Transcoder component has been devised to allow movies to be ingested into the archive and processed with minimal fuss and delay.
Attributes of Archive Item or Archive View classes can have a default value assigned to them. For most attributes this is unlikely to be needed. However, attributes like Conditions of Use, Copyright and Intellectual Property usually contain a generic statement that rarely changes.
