Releasing records locked for editing by other users

Record ‘edit locks’ are an important mechanism within Keeping Culture KMS that ensures only one user can edit a record at any one time.

When a user has permission to edit the record they are viewing, the system locks the record to their login session. This ensures that no other user can edit the record simultaneously. Edit locks are released when the user moves away from the record, freeing it up for editing by another user.

However, if a user closes their browser window whilst viewing a record, the record remains locked for the duration of the login session. This can be frustrating for administrators of archives with long session durations, as it prevents them from making changes until the record is unlocked.

Super Administrators can manually release (or unlock) edit locks on records via the administrative Edit locks page.

To display the Edit locks page, navigate to:

  1. Main Menu
  2. Administration tab
  3. Edit locks hyperlink
Navigation steps to access the Edit locks page in Keeping Culture KMS.

You will be required to login using a Super Administrator account to access the Edit locks page.
