Base Layers can be sourced from online mapping resources including Google, Bing, Open Street Map and other Web Mapping Service (WMS) compatible resources.
Note: Maps sourced from Bing Maps require an API Key. This key can obtain by registering an account with Bing at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff428642.aspx
Google Maps
Creating a Google Satellite Base Layer:
- Log into the Archive using a Super Administrator account and proceed to: Administration → Home.
- Click the ‘Base Layers’ link under the ‘Mapping’ heading.
- Click the ‘New’ button to display the ‘New Base Layer Wizard’.
- Select the ‘Google Maps (Version 3)’ radio button, then click ‘Continue’.
- Enter the following values into the corresponding fields:
Base Layer Label: Google Satellite
Type: Satellite
Click ‘Continue’, then ‘Done’.
Other Google Map types include Roadmap, Hybrid and Terrain.
Bing Maps
Creating a Bing Aerial Base Layer:
- Log into the Archive using a Super Administrator account and proceed to: Administration → Home.
- Click the ‘Base Layers’ link under the ‘Mapping’ heading.
- Click the ‘New’ button to display the ‘New Base Layer Wizard’.
- Select the ‘Bing Maps’ radio button, then click ‘Continue’.
- Enter the following values into the corresponding fields:
Base Layer Label: Bing Aerial
Type: Aerial
Bing API Key*: enter your Bing Maps API key
Click ‘Continue’, then ‘Done’.
Other Bing Map types include Roads and Aerial with labels.
Open Street Map
Creating a Open Street Map Base Layer:
- Log into the Archive using a Super Administrator account and proceed to: Administration → Home.
- Click the ‘Base Layers’ link under the ‘Mapping’ heading.
- Click the ‘New’ button to display the ‘New Base Layer Wizard’.
- Select the ‘Open Street Map’ radio button, then click ‘Continue’.
- Enter the following value into the ‘Base Layer Label’ fields: Open Street Map
Click ‘Continue’, then ‘Done’.
